The sun has set, but the antenna is about to go up. A well-equipped night security guard at the hotel wonders what we are doing. |

3DA0GY NOW QRT
I am finally at my QTH at Piggs Peak in the Hhohho region of Eswatini. The antenna was set up same night that I arrived Eswatini (Thursday 22 May 2025) and at sunrise the day after I started fine tuning it to get the SWR down. The SWR is acceptable at from 7 to 28 MHz. I still have an issue on 80 meters.
Unfortunately, the HF conditions were not great, and I noticed that NOAA had sendt out an alert about solar activity.
Well, the conditions do improve, and I took part in the WPX contest. Plan B was, please not tell my XYL, to make myself known in the hotel bar.
After the WPX contest ended and a couple of days with many CW-QSOs it was time to visit Marvin Ngwenya at ESCCOM (Eswatini Communications Commission). The license had already been received by mail home in Norway, but now I received the official paper with a "3D stamp" (see picture to the right). Ngwenya on the right in the picture, LA9GY/3DA0GY on the left.
May 29th started off pretty bad with poor conditions on 10 to 80 meters. K-index 6 and A-index 18. Signal to noise ratio was S6 - S9 (see picture on the right).
I'll be QRV from Eswatini from May 22 to June 2, 2025 - primarily on CW (with some SSB) QSOs on 10, 15, and 20 meters, as well as the WARC bands. QSL in SAE to my home call LA9GY, Morten Antonsen, Hallsetreina 6, 7027 Norway. Please notice that letters from Norway abroad are expensive and cost 4 USD. I expect to upload QSOs to LoTW during the summer of 2025.
